Out in the Judean wilderness near Jericho, a full-size copy of Israel's ancient Tabernacle was constructed a few years ago. In this program, we visit the site and take a close look at what the Old Testament Tabernacle was really like and learn about its meaning and that of the objects connected with it. The life-size scale of things gives you a realistic sense of actually having been there with the ancient Israelites.

Today's program was shot at the wilderness oasis of En Gedi, the place where David hid himself when he was being pursued by King Saul (I Sam. 24). In the program we hike around the En Gedi area and learn some details about desert oases. We also take a look at some of the things David thought about during his time here and give some thought to the idea of "territory" -- a concept about which humans seem to have an innate sense. Like the other programs in this series, today's video highlights some breathtaking scenery.

The focus of this week's program is the famous fortress of Masada, where Jewish rebels held out against the Roman army in the first century A.D. After the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70, approximately 900 Jewish patriots and their families held out here for over two years before committing mass suicide. In this program, we explore the meaning of the drama that was played out here and how modern Israelis relate to that tragic event.

TITLE: A Message from the Holy Land #9

In this program, we visit the town of Capernaum, where Jesus began His public ministry. We'll be thinking together about what kind of influence Jesus' message had upon the Galilee area so long ago. How was it that he became, as the Apostle John said, "...the light [that] shines in the darkness" (Jn. 1:5) and still is the One who removes the darkness that lives in our own hearts? We'll talk about this and more in this program.
