TITLE: Harps of Prayer
GUEST: Carol Sack

One of the various activities sponsored by the Japan Evangelical Lutheran Association (JELA) is a group called "Lyra Precaria," or Harps of Prayer. The goal of the group is to train volunteers in the use of harp performance for the purpose of ministering to others. Participants go through an 18-month training program with the goal of using their musical skills to deliver "living prayers" of love to people who are suffering. The group's leader, Carol Sack, joins us to explain the work and how it got started in the first place.

It's been reported that more than 20 million people around the world are in need of a wheelchair. Unfortunately, for mostly economic reasons, most people who need a wheel chair can't get one. For that reason, the non-profit organization "Wheelchairs of Hope" was founded and its specialty is delivering wheelchairs to folks who couldn't otherwise get them. In this program, the "movers" behind this activity, Mary Penner and Mitsuru Kawasaki, talk with us about the work of donating wheelchairs to the needy.

TITLE: A Philosophy of Cancer Outpatient Care
GUEST: Dr. Okio HIno

Cancer pathologist and professor at Juntendō University Dr. Okio Hino recently published a book by the title of A Philosophy of Cancer Outpatient Care. Over the course of five days between January and March of this year, Dr. Hino began a test of the theory he promotes in the book. The purpose of his method, he says, is to help doctors and cancer patients get together to talk about life. In this program, we talk with Dr. Hino about his book, his purpose behind writing it and the things he'd like to accomplish from this point on.
