TITLE: Dr. Kinotshita's English School
GUEST: Kazuyoshi Kinoshtia

Dr. Kazuyoshi Kinoshita is well-known as a foreign exchange program advisor, an instructor on radio and television English-teaching programs, and an author of English instructional texts. As he grew up in a harbor town, Kinoshita encountered the outside world through the foreign ships that came into port. Through this experience, he became interested in the English language and began studying with a missionary at a church. Now, having mastered the language, Kinoshita has developed his own learning technique and promotes it all over Japan. We talk with him in this program about his method and how learners can use it to master the English language.

The home schooling movement, which advocates parents educating their children at home instead of at public or private schools, has finally begun to take root in Japan. Today's guest, Hirō Inaba, is currently educating his own children at home, and also serves as the head of CHEA Japan (Church & Home Educators Association in Japan), one of the driving-force organizations for the home schooling movement here. In this program, we talk with him about the characteristic distinctives and advantages of home and church schooling programs.

TITLE: The "Compassion Car" Taxi Is Off and Running
GUEST: Toshimasa Shinohara

This week's guest is Toshimasa Shinohara who operates Aizu Taxi Co., once just another example of the economically struggling taxi business, but now a company riding the wave of a surprising business development. Aizu's drivers are certified as "Home Helpers" for the disabled and the company offers a taxi service that allows wheelchair-bound customers to ride easily. Now the company's motto is: "Trust, Hope, Sincerity." This all came about as the result of something that happened one day which gave Shinohara quite a shock and caused him to realize the intimate link between faith and work.  In today's program we ask him to tell us about ways to make the most of faith in the workplace.

TITLE: Living the NPO Life
GUEST: Hisashi Shimada

Hisashi Shimada is a lecturer in the Humanities Department of Bunkyō University in Kyōto and author of the book, Living the NPO Life. Shimada worked for Kuraray Co. until he was 50 and then became a researcher and business administration consultant. In his book, Shimada urges people to learn to think for themselves and, at the same time, renew and restore their connections to others -- both of which, he says, are guiding principles of Christianity. We talk with him in this program about what he believes to be the best way to approach life in this current age.

GUEST: Mitsuyo Miura

This week we bring you a look at the recent Memorial Forum in Osaka that commemorated the second anniversary of author Ayako Miura's death. The event was organized by the Kansai chapter of the International V.I.P. Club and guest speaker was Ayako Miura's husband, Mitsuyo. His address included some behind-the-scenes recollections about the writing of Miura's first best-seller, Freezing Point ("Hyoten"). A fascinating program.

This week's guest is cancer pathologist Okio Hino and our focus is upon his book entitled, A Philosophy of Cancer ("Gan Tetsugaku"), which was published in February. As the originator of this "Cancer Philosophy" concept, Hino applies his approach to sociology. "By looking at the behavior of cancer cells," he asserts, "we are actually able to get a handle on understanding some of the pathological tendencies of human society." Through his research, he says that he's now sounding an alarm that people ought to be paying attention to. This is the first installment in a two-part series.
