"A Visit to the Moriyasu Shōgi Dōjō" --
Masayuki & Wakae Moriyasu
This week, we travel to
the Moriyasu Shōgi Dōjō in Hyōgo Prefecture's Kawanishi City to interview
shōgi master Masayuki Moriyasu. Before retiring in 2004 after 33 years in
competition, Moriyasu was rated with a level seven (nana-dan) professional
ranking in this game of skill that's known to the Western world as Japanese
chess. Both Moriyasu and his younger brother, Hidemitsu (kyū-dan), received
training in the game from Kingō Fujiuchi, a disciple of the famous shōgi
master, Sankichi Sakata. Now, he operates his own dōjō (training school) to
develop future shōgi players. In this program, we talk with him and his wife
about the game of shōgi and about their faith in Christ. |
