#908 | "An
Underwater Photographer's 'Vital Sea'" -- Haruyoshi
Kaitō Photographer Haruyoshi Kaitō recently had a collection of his underwater photos from the Izu Ōsezaki area of Shizuoka Prefecture published under the title of Vital Sea ("Inochi no Umi") by Shogakkan Publishing Company. After having begun underwater photography at the age of 40, Kaitō came to believe in the existence of a Creator God through the variety of undersea creatures he encountered in his work. In looking back, Kaitō comments: "It wasn't because I was such a worthy individual. Clearly, it was the undeserved grace of God toward me." In this program we talk with him about sea life and about the road he has traveled thus far in life. |

#913 | "Eh?
Your Pastor's a Boxer?!" -- Makoto Hirata This week's guest is Pastor Makoto Hirata, who oversees a martial arts program he calls the "Pogona Club Gym" inside his church. Several years ago, as a result of taking his son to karate lessons, Hirata himself decided to take up one of the newer marital arts forms -- combinations of karate, kick-boxing, etc. As a result, he currently participates in tournaments, gives lessons and is often invited as a speaker on the subject. He says he's often asked, "Why would a pastor who's supposed to preach love want to be a boxer?" How does he reply to such a question? In this program we ask him to share this thoughts about this and much more. |

#915 | "The
Joy of Painting With India Ink" -- Yoshie
Andō Yoshie Andō is the wife of the pastor of Yokohama Okamura Church in Kanagawa Prefecture and the recipient of numerous awards for her India Ink paintings. After graduating from an art school, she became interested in water color painting and studied it for awhile. Later, as other things in life required her attention, she put her painting aside and didn't do any at all for quite a long time -- that is, until five years ago when she was diagnosed with cancer. As a result of this struggle with illness, she began to paint again. This week, we talk with her about how God's creative power in Nature impresses her and about the sheer joy she experiences when she's painting. |

However, four years ago, she says, the future seemed so bleak that she could not have even imagined her life today. At that point, two life-changing encounters occurred and eventually brought her to the place where she can now say that all that happened before was not in vain. Gospel From Israel to the World" -- Gavriel
Gefen This week's guest, Gavriel Gefen, was born into a Jewish home in America. However, at the age of 17, he and his whole family immigrated to Israel after having become believers in Jesus Christ. His parents then became involved in missionary activities that sent them from Israel to places like China and Africa. In 1997, however, Gefen's father died in an airplane crash while on a mission trip to the Congo. Shortly after this, Gefen founded Keren HaShlichut, an agency, he says, that sends Israelis as missionaries out to the Gentiles "to bless the nations with the light of God's Word." In this program we ask him about what it was that led him into the work he's doing. |
