  December 6th was "Sound Day" in Japan, a date chosen by organizations cooperating with the Japan Audio Society to commemorate the date in 1877 when Thomas Edison invented the phonograph. Each year on this date, the JAS selects a person prominent in the "sound culture" of Japan to receive the "Master of Sound" award. The 2008 recipient of the award was none other than our Harvest Time co-host, Keiko Nakamura. In this program, we bring you some footage of the ceremony itself, with a special focus on Keiko's acceptance speech.

So many people have gained hope and encouragement from her writing over the years that she's often asked about the secret to her forward-looking attitude.  To follow up on last week's program on Iran, we take up the situation in China this week. In 2006, Nobuo Takeuchi wound up a missionary assignment in China that spanned 17 years. Currently, he heads up the "Love Asia Mission," which he founded to continue his mission outreach activities in China. In this program, we talk with him about the current situation with China's House Church movement and about the future of relations between China and Japan.

In October of last year, a new "Taiyaki" stand opened in the Ōhara business district of Chiba Prefecture’s Isumi City. The owner of the stand is Yumiko Hirate, wife of the pastor of the Ōhara Kita-chō Christ Church. Mrs. Hirate’s shop is already getting a reputation on the street for having great-tasting Taiyaki at a low price. In this program, we talk with her about what prompted her to start this business and what her goal behind it all is.

  On March 9th, a meeting held in Tōkyō's Ebisu area celebrated the completion of Harvest Time co-host Keiko Nakamura's audio book recording of author Ayako Miura's well-known novel, Shiokari Pass. Present for the occasion was Ms. Yūko Miyajima, who worked as Ayako Miura's first personal secretary. In this program, we take a look at the atmosphere of the meeting general and hear from Ms. Miyajima about some fascinating details of the Miura family's life together.
