THE JAPANESE PEOPLE NEED JESUS!
nd that is, indeed, the heartbeat of what we do here at Harvest Time Ministries. All that you will find within these pages has to do with what goes on here everyday to try to reach the Japanese people for Christ and help fulfill the command of Jesus, known as "The Great Commission:"
19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. The Gospel According to Matthew, chapter 28 (NIV) |
Our Mission
Ministry focus is always an essential element when limited time and human resources have to be be factored in. Harvest Time Ministries has therefore been led of the Lord over the years, we believe, to focus upon four major activities for which we daily seek His guidance -- and unlimited provision.
Television Production
Harvest Time Ministries intends to reach the entire nation of Japan through our weekly television broadcasts. Currently, because of recent developments in broadcast satellite technology, an opportunity exists for us to establish the "Harvest Time Network." This would become the first 24-hour television broadcasting network in which explicitly Christian content could be aired to the nation. As a step in that direction, Harvest Time launched its own Internet TV website in October of 2006. Several hundred episodes of our program can now be viewed on-line with English sub-titles, 24 hours a day.
Evangelistic Meetings
Harvest Time has always highly regarded the important role of the local church in the Kingdom of God. For that reason, the organization sponsors numerous evangelistic crusade meetings in co-operation with local churches in the areas where our program is aired.
Seminars
Church-growth and personal discipleship seminars are an activity to which much prayer and effort is devoted at Harvest Time. As a former pastor himself, Rev. Nakagawa knows the importance of discipleship training and regularly holds seminars on various topics to help those who are willing to follow Christ grow to maturity in their faith. Viewers are especially encouraged to attend our "Getsureikai" meetings in Ōsaka and Harvest Forum meetings in Tōkyō every month.
World Missions
Harvest Time Ministries encourages Japanese Christians to be more involved in world missions through prayer, giving, and going. Missionary guests and missions are often in the spotlight on our television program. In addition, Jewish evangelism and the encouragement of Messianic Jewish believers are major emphases of this ministry. Opportunities for fellowship with these brethren are readily available, as well, through Harvest Time's yearly guided tours to the Holy Land.
Harvest Time Ministries Profile
Harvest Time Ministries was founded by Rev. Kenichi Nakagawa in Tōkyō as a non-denominational, evangelical Christian outreach ministry in January of 1986. The purpose of the organization has always been to preach the Gospel to the Japanese people through the medium of television. Broadcasts began in April of 1986 with the airing of a 30-minute magazine-style program on six regional TV stations.
In April of 1988, "Harvest Time" began airing weekly programs for the Japanese-speaking people in Southern California on KSCI-TV, channel 18 in Los Angeles. Broadcasts in Hawaii (KIKU-TV, ch. 20) began in July of 1989. Currently, our programs also air in New York/New Jersey (WMBC-TV, ch. 63), the United TV Broadcasting System (ch. 8.2 in Hollywood, California) and on the Chinese-language International Family TV satellite system. All programs aired in the U.S. are broadcast with English sub-titles. Overseas, we have a U.S. office Tustin, California and a tape distribution office in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Harvest Time Ministries is supported by over 6,000 individuals and by more than 900 churches. The estimated viewing audience of the "Harvest Time" television program is over one million per week.
The Director
Rev. Kenichi Nakagawa, founder and president of Harvest Time Ministries, Japan, was born in Japan in 1947. He graduated from Hitotsubashi University in Tōkyō in 1970 and spent six years as a businessman until the Lord called him to full-time ministry. Rev. Nakagawa earned an M.Div. degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois and returned to Japan in 1979 to pioneer a church in Tōkyō. He began Harvest Time Ministries in 1986 and it has since become the largest producer of Christian television programming in Japan. He and his wife, Fumie, have four children.
